Blizzard developing tonight continuing on Monday

Jaahas! Taas jotain kivaa. Jo sitä ehtikin olla viikkokaupalla säälliset kelit. Voisi sen lumimyrskyn aikana tulla sitten luntakin, mutta ei siltä näytä. Aurinkoisia ja jäätäviä kelejä sen sijaan lupaa loppuviikoksi.

Blizzard developing tonight continuing on Monday.

A storm system giving snow to Northwestern Ontario will push into Southern Manitoba this evening. Conditions are expected to deteriorate sharply tonight in the Red River Valley..Including the City of Winnipeg..Parts of the Interlake..And areas between the escarpment and Lake Manitoba as snow from this system begins to accumulate and blow around in northwest winds which will strengthen to 50 gusting 70 km/h tonight. This will produce blizzard conditions in the above areas starting later tonight. The blizzard is expected to continue through much of the day Monday. Snowfall accumulations are not expected to be too significant with this storm..With anywhere from 2 to 5 cm of new snow in the Red River Valley increasing to 10 cm or so near the Ontario border..But the main problem will be due to poor visibility in open areas due to blowing snow.

Elsewhere, snow continues through west-Central Manitoba, where a winter storm warning remains in effect. Note that all of Southern Manitoba will see some blowing snow over the next 24 hours with this system..However the worst conditions will be experienced in areas under the blizzard warning.

This winter storm is quite large and is producing poor travelling conditions across the southern prairies and neighbouring states. These poor conditions will continue through Monday. Persons in or near the warning areas should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and travel only when necessary.

The storm will finally Peter out Monday evening as winds diminish and skies clear. Sunny skies are expected for the remainder of the week, although temperatures will be much colder that what we have become accustomed to with highs around minus 15 expected.
